SOLD…….A good quality gilt metal chatelaine pencil. Mid 19thcA fine ormolu mechanical pencil with hanging loop for attaching to a chatelaine. The pencil is in working order. c 1840 8. 5 cm long extended. 3. 25 inches Stock no. KL36

It is lined with pink paper

In good condition with a strong spring on both blades but the larger one has probably been reduced in width over the years

In excellent condition especially considering its age

The hinged one has a piece of sprung glass in the lid which is the stopper whilst the screw lid has a piece of cork and this section was for smelling salts

A porcelain scent bottle painted with a horse and jockey and with a jockey cap lid

one end is labelled McPherson in the usual gold on black

The print of the cards depicts the style of the time with square corners

There was revival in the 19th century-particularly in America- of an old ritual where a widows tears were caught in a bottle and then tipped on the husband's grave on the anniversary of the death

The rest of the varnished surface has some light scratching and pitting ( see last photo )

The front and inner sleeve are fine
