A French gutta-percha pin box with floral insert. c 1850An attractive French pin box from a lady's dressing table. It is made of gutta percha and has a geometric design on the base. The lid is set with a gilt 3D metal flower basket with coloured highlights. This is under glass and in a gilt metal surround. The lid lifts off and is now a loose fit. The lid is decorated with strips of straw set at an angle to create shaded areas to pleasing effect

The handle is fixed to the sides of the box with brass screws
