SOLD…..A Georgian steel topped silver thimble. c 1790A nice example of an early silver thimble with bright cut engraving and a steel top. The rimless thimble is decorated with a band of leaves simply engraved. The shield is marked with the original owner's initials in the old style of lettering with the four spacers in between the I and the O . 2. 5 cm in height Finger aperture 13mm In good condition it has been used and has areas of needle wear but no holes. The original bodkin is missing however with just the loop for it remaining

It is decorated with a gold trelliswork design and stars

In excellent condition- no holes or repairs

The steel is engraved 'Carlsbad' on the side of the holder for the cushion which is made of a red and gold brocade

The cushion is brown silk velvet and looks to be the original

The pattern is the same on both sides

The silver is decorated with engraved leaves and it has a red printed silk tape starting at around 3 inches

It is extremely pretty with a shaped outline and intricate piercing

No silver hall marks- just VS on the nozzle

She was a wealthy American philanthropist who was known for her very elaborate miniature rooms
