Ferberite

FerberiteAn impressive and attractive twinned Ferberite from Tasna. This species was sometimes previously referred to as "Wolframite", which was supposed to be an intermediary species between Ferberite and Hubnerite, but has since been discredited. This splendid piece is a sharp, highly lustrous, jet black twinned crystal of Ferberite (twinned along the a{100} face). I acquired this piece from my father when I was about 15 years old

as only a handful were ever found in this size

there are some very good quality Wavellites on this specimen

and a surprise discovery from early 2011

There are also a few classic “bent” crystals on the piece as well

but the color and form make it a worthwhile thumbnail of this classic material

and rare light green Paravauxite crystals

The piece ranges from white and virtually opaque to colorless and WATER-CLEAR in areas

ridiculously rare specimen consisting of beautiful blue color

and certainly one of the more interesting and eye-catching pieces that I’ve offered
