A pearl topped emery from a 19th century fitted sewing box. c1850A pearl topped emery holder for sharpening the needle rather than a pin cushion. The top is a disc of carved and pierced mother of pearl and would have been in a sewing box along with a matching set of reels plus a waxer and a tape measure. The rest is made of domestic animal bone and the interior holds a pad full of emery accessed through those holes in the side. 2. 2cm tall base diameter 1. 6cm In excellent condition no damage. The rest of the varnished surface has some light scratching and pitting ( see last photo )

They would just sit within a 4 x 4cm compartment
