A Macao Ivory Chess Set, circa 1820An Antique Macao or Cantonese Export Ivory "Bust" Chess Set, circa 1820 one side stained red, the other side left natural, white kings and queens as European monarchs, bishops as clerics or mandarins, knights as horses' heads, rooks as turrets with flags, pawns wearing helmets, the chessmen carved with intricate floral and foliate motifs, all raised on carved circular gadrooned bases King: 11cm high Pawn: 6cm high Stock Reference: 1108
