Opal ("Fever Opal")

Opal ("Fever Opal")We picked up this stone from a friend who calls it "Fever Opal" as he said it wasn't "Fire Opal", per se, due to the mix of colors. The stone is about 50% colorless, but the other half shows a brilliant reddish orange hue creating a rarely seen two tone effect. Typically, the Fire Jelly Opals from Queretaro are a sold hue (yellow, orange or red), and a mixing of colors is rarely seen, especially in faceted material. This attractive "Emerald" cut gem

The crystals are associated with minor Quartz and Pyrrhotite on the reverse side of the specimen

Panasqueira has produced some amazing Apatite (Fluorapatite) specimens in its history

The piece was a bit difficult to photograph but truly looks much better in person

2 cm that have a medium chocolate-brown coating of an unknown manganese oxide

revealing a brighter red color

one could only purchase gems in this country that were imported prior to the embargo

Pakistan has produced more top shelf Aquamarine specimens than any other country

there is a small opaque white layer of Precious Opal that can be seen in the center and back of the piece giving it a pleasing overall presence
