The “Benz” part of the name comes from the tip of some calcite crystals which have a clearly defined three-pointed star of pyrite

but most specimens have vivid color due to various impurities and are often fluorescent

many of which feature coatings of fine

These pieces of cuboidal fluorite crystals in varying shades of dark green occur on a high contrast white-gray matrix

The spectacular display of colors these specimens display can be formed by two different geological processes: the oxidation of pyrite causing ultra-thin layers of iron oxide to form on the surface
