An embossed silver knitting stick. c 1860A good 19th century silver knitting stick with embossed decoration and with a pin fastening. Dutch silver mark and maker's initials. Knitting sticks or 'third hands' were worn at the waist to support a knitting needle. Dutch ones are usually marked with a tiny dagger to indicate silver. In excellent condition. 15 cm long 6 inches Stock no. JZ17

There are some fleabites on the edges - the most obvious being on the corner of the base (see last photo)

It is French and dates to circa 1870

The box measures 18 cm x 10

It's in very good condition with no damage to the silver and the worm is the full length

The decorative turned pearl discs screw into both ends for display

are made from some form of worked and painted plaster work

One side has his face in profile with the words -

A lovely mother of pearl dip pen carved to simulate an arrow

The first printed page is titled 'The Royal Repository or Picturesque Pocket Diary' and in Roman numerals MDCCCVII / 1807

5 cm and slightly convex but perfect for making into a brooch
