Childrenite on Quartz

Childrenite on QuartzSome of the best crystallized phosphates from Bolivia are found at this locality. Childrenite is a relatively rare, hydrated iron aluminum phosphate and some of the better and more unique specimens of this mineral come from Llallagua. There are only a few localities in the world where this mineral is found. This specimen features several excellent, rare, sparkling, brownish color spherical aggregates (comprised of dozens of triangular bladed crystals)

A wonderful Baryte specimen from the Black Cloud featuring very sharp

and according to the locals

but it appears that the rich color is due to a micro coating of transparent Quartz on top of the Vauxite

and the “drillbit” habit is next to impossible to find in my experience

and certainly better quality than a lot of Vivianites from this mine from the standpoint of gemminess and color

This mine is still active today and bears the unique distinction of producing the only GEM quality (facet grade) Cassiterites from any mine in Bolivia

and even the highly desirable and rarely seen RED
