A background trace of wood sets off reticent but pure and earth red, blue and violet aromas that are followed by wonderfully intense, dense and powerful broad shouldered flavors that both coat and stain the palate on the long and youthfully austere finish. This is very much Cistercian in character and while impressive, this is one very serious wine where plenty of patience will again be required. 93 2018+

But this grip and structure are welcome and don't dominate the spiciness and persistence of the fruit

This is even stronger than it appeared to be from barrel last spring

I have also tasted several other examples that have shown similarly if not quite as fresh while meriting scores of between 93 and 94 points

The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins

introducing supple and slightly less concentrated flavors that are more refined and display that hallmark minerality

dusty tannins on the prolonged finish
