SOLD..............A gilt metal bodkin commemorating Queen Victoria. 1838A pressed gilt metal bodkin made to commemorate both the birth in 1819 of Queen Victoria and her coronation in 1838. One side reads 'Victoria 1 born May 24th 1819' The other side 'Crowned June 28th 1838' In excellent condition. 6. 5cm long 2. 5 inches Stock no. JZ36

There's no damage - a few stains only

The handles are beautifully pierced and engraved with a fruiting vine and they are in a painted hessian scissor case

The box itself is of a type known as Painted Tunbridge Ware which pre-dates the better known inlaid Tunbridge Ware- the green painted leaf design surrounding the print being a typical embellishment as are the black flecks of paint on the edges

It is extremely pretty with a shaped outline and intricate piercing

A curio that is stamped with the name 'Ransom' who is listed as a 19th century maker of dental and medical supplies
