Raul Perez, Ultreia ValtuilleThe 2021 Ultreia Valtuille was produced with the clay part of their Villegas plot, as the sandy part was used for the new Ultreia Villegas bottling but introduced the lower part of the vineyard with more soil and more clay. They produced more or less the same amount as in previous years, some 18 barriques; but in 2021, they introduced foudres for part of the wine, and in this first year, the foudre was newer (they used it to ferment a white before).

For that reason

There is a superb sense of underlying tension to the much more mineral-driven flavors that are also stunningly dense and powerful yet the bone dry and hugely long finish is an exercise in grace and harmony

saline minerals and sour citrus complicate tart wild berry fruit depths

As is sometimes the case with very young examples of Montrachet

pure and impressively persistent finish where a citrus component adds a bit of additional lift

plush and hauntingly beautiful wine with tremendous power

merging with a gentle smattering of earth and autumn leaves that float you through the finish

and in particular green apple

This is very impressive but shows less sangiovese perfume than usual

The delicious and vibrant medium weight flavors possess a caressing mouth feel while exhibiting so much salinity that the mildly warm finish is borderline salty
