Croix, Corton Charlemagne

Croix, Corton Charlemagne(from Le Charlemagne). A pretty, fresh and well layered nose consists of both white and yellow orchard fruit, and in particular green apple, as well as notes of acacia, mineral reduction and citrus zest. There is excellent volume and punch to the muscular and imposingly scaled flavors that exhibit a driving minerality on the cool, focused and strikingly long bitter lemon inflected finish. This terrific effort is very clearly built to age yet could

with a minty reserve

Bitter chocolate

sensual beauty imbued with the essence of black pepper

This very serious effort will benefit from extended keeping

This is not an especially elegant Corton yet neither is it overtly rustic

and therefore

stylish and impressively persistent finale

and the older vine cuvee

To describe this as an atypical 2017 would be an understatement as it’s ripe to the point of being particular

With all due respect

It has a rather splendid bouquet that has matured beautifully with raspberry preserve

There is the nostalgic recognition that this would be one of the last vintages made
