SOLD……A set of 6 pearl topped cotton reel holders / spools. c 1850A set of 6 pearl topped reels with brass stems and bone bases. They are full sized 3. 5 cm in height, top diameter of 3. 2cm and base diameter 2. 7cm with very slight variations as they were individually hand made. 19th century. c1850 In excellent condition. The method of production was to create a sandwich of brass and shell and then to use a fretsaw to cut both pieces together so when separated they fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle

The back cover has a trellis design with leaves and the same border as the front

11 x 6 x 4 cm with the swing handle bringing the height to 10cm

In excellent condition- no holes or repairs and in the round

There is a square of wood in the middle of one long side that pushes up lifting the lid slightly at the same time

There is no damage just some light scuff marks on the lenses

Inside the photograph is of a young man in a relaxed pose beside a tasseled curtain

The brass screw on the base is stamped SGDG which is a French patent
