Hyalite Opal (Opal-AN) ("Blood Vessel Opal")This "Round Brilliant" cut Hyalite Opal gem is translucent with a golden to orange to colorless interior, but the most important aspect of the piece is the fact that it shows tiny red capillary like inclusions of iron oxide just below the surface, which has given this material the nickname "Blood Vessel Opal". If you look closely, you can see the tiny fibrous inclusions that have an almost organic appearance. This is truly unique and interesting Opal

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the piece is the fact that it is attached to a thin layer of white Feldspar on the back

Well known Colorado collector George Robertson gave this piece to me (more appropriately my parents) as a present for my first birthday after a digging trip to the area a few months prior

This locality is arguably the most productive specimen producer in Leadville

This stone is a wonderful and incredibly hard to find example of faceted Wurtzite

The HIGH luster of the faces made it difficult to photograph
