SOLD…….A vegetable ivory needle case- Thames Tunnel souvenir. c 1843A carved needle case made out of the kernel of the tagua nut. It is a honey coloured material and can be carved when fresh. The top is in the form of an acorn and has written in red 'A Present from the Thames Tunnel ' * Opened in 1843 In good condition there's no damage but there is a natural flaw in the base section (see last photo). 7. 5 cm tall 3 inches Stock no. 11 x 6 x 4 cm with the swing handle bringing the height to 10cm
The pearl has raised silver rivet covers but one is missing in the centre
An unusual Tunbridge Ware stamp box
The slightly oval handle is carved with diagonals and has a short neck
It has a ring attachment for suspension
Otherwise it is in excellent condition
Closed it measures 11
It is extremely pretty with a shaped outline and intricate piercing

The pearl is engraved with simple flower sprays and the silver spring cover is stepped and cross hatched

In excellent condition- no damage to the pearl
